Event: 'Balboa II @Brecksville Center For The Arts' Print
  Local Lessons
Swing dance lessons held around Northeast Ohio
Date: Monday, August 03, 2009 - 8:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Repeat Event: Repeat every Monday until August 31, 2009

Brought to you by Valerie Salstrom (Get Hep Swing) and Brecksville Center for the Arts:

Balboa and Bal-Swing are dances that originated in the
crowded ballrooms of Southern California and were popular
in the mid 1930’s. The Balboa is most loved for its fancy
footwork, finesse, subtleties, and ability to be done quite
easily at fast tempos. The Balboa is done with a closer torso
to torso type connection and is the perfect dance for work-
ing on leading and following body leads. Bal-Swing: with its
open body connection, developed when the strict Balboa and
California style swing dancing were combined. Bal-Swing
and its bigger,” crazier” movements would often times get
you kicked out of the ballrooms back in the day! Come and
be a rebel and learn Balboa with us! To see that the Balboa
looks like, please check the video of www.GetHepSwing.com

No partner is needed for this class. Dress in comfortable
clothing and wear shoes that are a bit on the slippery side.
Leather soled shoes are perfect for this foot particular dance.
We recommended that the ladies in the Balboa class wear at
least a small heel.
