5 Week lessons start January 12th and end February 9th with a super fun and friendly Intro to Jitterbug class with Valerie Salstrom, Jeff Leake and friends from 7:30-8:30.

THIS IS THE PERFECT CLASS FOR YOU if you have never take a dance class before or you are new to partnered dancing or you are starting to get nervous just reading this.  :)  You WILL have fun!  I promise!  You will also end up being very proud of yourself by the end of the 5 weeks.

We (I am Valerie) will focus on two different footwork patterns, connecting to your partner, and some basic patterns.  It is certain that we will cover the basic tuck turn, the right side pass, getting into closed position and more.  Each beginner class we teach is dictated by the students in the class.  We let YOU tell us how fast to go and where to go next.  We teach different material every time.  Even if you have taken a beginner Jitterbug class before, you will find this class very useful.

This series of dance lessons is $50 per person for 5 weeks or $80 per couple for the entire 5 week session. Checks should be made out to Get Hep Swing.

If you are feeling really spunky, we have an Intro to Balboa class immediately following the Jitterbug class from 8:30-9:30.  That class is an additional $50 per person.

FREE DJed Open practice and social dancing will begin at 9:30 and go until 11:00.

Partnered Charleston started in the 1920s with the male and female dancers connected in a face to face position.  As the Charleston was incorporated into other swing dance forms over the years it morphed to match the changes in the music and the dancers ended up in a side-by-side position, hand-to-hand position and also in an in-line position. The basics and several moves in each of these positions will be taught in this session.  Charleston is relatively easy to learn and is certainly an easy way to add some flash to your dancing.  (New moves will be taught in each 5 week Charleston session.)

Like most Swing dances, Blues dancing is rooted deeply in early African American culture and is a fusion of several different styles – from Lindy Hop to Ballet. This partnered dance was born in smokey dives and at house parties right around the same time as other swing dances were starting to catch on.  There are many types of Blues music (rural, urban, up-tempo, slow, electric, delta, modern) and also many types of Blues dance (fishtail, mooche, slow drag)  all with very different nuances and emotions-and we will sample a bit of it all.

5 Week lessons start January 12th with Beginner Balboa instruction from 8:30-9:30 with Valerie Salstrom, Jeff Leake and a few friends from the GHS crew.

Balboa and Bal-Swing are dances that originated in the crowded ballrooms of Southern California and were most popular in the mid 1930s.  The Balboa is most loved for its fancy foot work, finesse, subtleties, and ability to be done quite easily at faster tempos.  If you are interested in developing and refining your lead and follow skills Balboa is just the dance for you!

These classes are open to everyone from beginner to advanced dancer!
